Theater Laboratory Bochum: The Perceval-Project
Percivâl, in 9th century protected from worldly life by his mother in the loneliness of the forest, grows up in a childish naivity as an "undefiled fool“. He wants to become a knight in order to save people. However not until he comprehends his weaknesses – leaving his mother and her death, his miserable failings at the grailes castle – can he release King Amfortas who is suffering from his open wounds.
Parzivâl transforms his doubts and guilt into wisdom and love. He becomes „aware through compassion“ and takes the office as guard of the graile.
The Theater Laboratory Bochum presents a moving theatre of a special kind. In commanding images the company evolves the archetypal and timeless quality of the legend. The musician Michael Machnik seduces the audience into weird worlds with magic sounds and compositions.

"On the Run" – a dance and theatre performance
with young people from 6 nations
More than twelve millon Germans lost their home during the second world war, suffering poverty, cold and supernatural strain. Many of them had been completely uprooted and lived in constant fear of aggressive attacks for years. Fortunately countries like the United States gave them shelter, offered them a new homeland to settle.
Today we are the ones who have to give shelter and protection to others. People are coming from the whole of the world in hope for security and a better life. Iraqis and Afghans escape from the war, Roma escape from discrimination in Hungary and Kosovo, Africans try to get away from hunger and so on.
Who are these people? What is going on in their souls and minds? What have they experienced and what are their stories? Questions which have been the initial point to work for Lutz Pickardt (theater) and Kama Frankl (dance).
From september to november they have been discussed, experimented and improvised with 11 young people from 6 countries. They created a dance and theater performance which is not only exciting, touching and entertaining but thought-provoking as well.

Seven Deadly Sins - Theater Dionysos
Lust, anger, envy, gluttony, pride, indolence und greed – human weaknesses which have been stigmatized by the church as deadly sins since the middle ages. Generations of believers have suffered guilty feelings, the fear of eternal damnation guaranteed obediance and submission.
Times have changed. Today 'sin' has become an anti-word, moral used as an instrument of oppression. 'Freedom‘ and ‚individuality‘ magic words since the age of enlightenment. The renunciation of old values did not only liberate, it left behind a great emptiness. Greed is now cool, juveniles bash seniors, and investment bankers gamble with the money of their clients.
Seven Sins as a moral concept – should we think about that anew? Or do we need completely different ethics? How do we want to live? What is the future of our society?
Questions, which Theater Dionysos got to the bottom of.
For six months the group around director Lutz Pickardt discussed, played, improvised, experimented with poems and texts. They developed a stage play, that premiered in April 2010. Theater Dionysos - 13 agile seniors in Theater Marl.
Whoever has seen this company on the stage knows that he will be prepared for an exciting moving theatre, which not only entertains but gives food for thought as well.

Workshop: Physical Theatre – Ritual Play
"The loving, open minded man plays without a reason and enjoys his life because he is joy. He imitates the dance of the birds and stretches his wings like they do. He is fulfilled with the spirit of the winds, the floating water, the warming fire and the nourishing earth." [after Kabir]
This kind of playing is the base of "physical theatre": a playing which does not aim in performing, but allows us to be merged with our entire being. It is a way back to the directness of expression. In playful encounters we find ourselves in the flow of breathing, voice and movement. It is less a 'doing' but more an admission to s.th. that wants to happen on its own. We use coincidences as the most important sources for our inspiration: everything is valid, nothing incidental, the duality of 'right' or 'wrong' is set out of order.
Even resistance is not considered as a barrier but as a way to new possibilities. The whole world of emotions, dreams and fantasies is a part of playing and shows itself as a source of consistently emerging shapes: Once we are a human, once an animal, once a plant or just air, water or fire.
In group improvisations with body and voice, with rhythm and space we discover 'archetypal' images: prototypes of the soul or contents of the 'collective unconsciousness' ( C.G. Jung)... Afterwards the improvisations can be repeated, deepend and modellized: Images and signs of great theatralical power and virtue come into being.
The work is based on a literary text.
Professional experiences in dance or theatre are neither required nor a hinderance.
